The Great Carl Rogers - Person Centred Therapy - video
Carl Ransom Rogers (January 8, 1902 February 4, 1987) was an influential American psychologist and among the founders of the humanistic approach to psychology. Rogers is widely considered to be one of the founding fathers of psychotherapy research and was honored for his pioneering research with the Award for Distinguished Scientific Contributions by the American Psychological Association in 1956.
The person-centered approach, his own unique approach to understanding personality and human relationships, found wide application in various domains such as psychotherapy and counseling (client-centered therapy), education (student-centered learning), organizations, and other group settings. For his professional work he was bestowed the Award for Distinguished Professional Contributions to Psychology by the APA in 1972. Towards the end of his life Carl Rogers was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his work with national intergroup conflict in South Africa and Northern Ireland.[1] In an empirical study by Haggbloom et al. (2002) using six criteria such as citations and recognition, Rogers was found to be the sixth most eminent psychologist of the 20th century and second, among clinicians, only to Sigmund Freud.
This video shows Rogers talking about his theory, Emotionally focused therapy has built on his theory to apply it marriage and Couples therapy

Mandated Free Marriage Mediation Ontario
A recent pilot program has been introduced that adds an extra step in the process of obtaining a divorce in Ontario. Couples who file a contested divorce will now be mandated to attend a free two-hour mediation session in the hopes that they can reach an arrangement that will prevent them from having to go to litigation. This is how it will work, once a couple formally files for divorce they will be provided with a document containing information on the mandatory session they must attend before any court appearances. Once they attend the session, they are given a stamp of confirmation of attendance which allows the proceeding to continue if they have not been able to come up with an agreement. These sessions are only mandatory for couples who are requesting divorce along with spousal support, child support, division of property and so on. It does not apply to those who are filing a joint divorce.

How to ask your employer to add social work benefits to your extended plan health
What can you do?
1. If you work in an organization that provides a group benefits plan, become
familiar with the nature and amount of coverage for each benefit.
2. If psychosocial counselling provided by a social worker is not covered, ask
your union representative or, in non-unionized settings, your human resource
personnel or employer to add coverage when contract negotiations occur or
when the plan comes up for renewal.
3. If counselling is provided through an EAP, ask that counselling provided by a
social worker be added as an extra benefit (as is often done for psychology). It
can be added as a separate benefit or under the same coverage as psychologists.
Employees deserve to have choice in the selection of a practitioner who
provides counselling.
4. Encourage your colleagues at work to support your request. Attend union
meetings to ensure that this benefit is on the table when the contract
negotiations take place.
5. If social work counselling is covered, seek equity in the amount of coverage
provided for social work counselling as compared to related benefits in the
group plan. Coverage for counselling services varies dramatically across
organizations. Organizations should be encouraged to provide higher rather
than lower amounts of coverage for social work counselling.
6. Point out that when an employee is in crisis, even one or two visits with a
social worker can be helpful

Dyadic Adjustment Scale: Used for assessing marital and couples relationship satisfaction.
The DAS is a 32-item self-administered measure of the quality of marriage and similar dyads. It can be completed in about 10 minutes and has been widely used in research on the marital or dyadic relationship.
The DAS score is computed by adding up the scores of all items. Total score ranges from 0 to 151. There is no norm for determining the cut-off for happy or unhappy relationship. However, in a previous study, the mean score of a divorced sample is 71, and the mean score of a married sample is 115. A score below 71 may be indicative of a distressed relationship, and a score above 115 may be indicative of a non-distressed  relationship.

CBT is a psychological treatment that addresses the interactions between how we think, feel and behave. It is usually time-limited (approximately10-20 sessions), focuses on current problems and follows a structured

How healthy is your marriage or relationship?
Relationship Check Up 101:
With so much in the news about celebrity marriages that are dealing with infidelity and other problems - many people find themselves wondering about their own relationships. Below is a simple way of assessing the health of your relationship.
Instructions: Print these statements and use it as a tool for discussion with your spouse or partner. If you can discuss these issues with your partner or spouse in an open and honest way and in the end after talking feel more connected and positive about your relationship then most likely you have the basis for a lasting and loving relationship.
We feel safe and secure in our relationship.
Our shared values outnumber those not shared.
We have a shared method for resolving conflicts that is mutually respectful.
Problems in our relationship are shared e.g. not always one person`s fault.
Our language and behaviours towards one another are respectful.
We can switch roles to solve different problems.
The work to run the relationship, household, and or family is negotiated and divided fairly.
We feel our relationship is supportive of both our short term and longterm goals.
Our sex life is meaningful and we can talk openly about each of our needs.
We each take time to nurture and grow the relationship.
Coping with Infidelity: Self-Help Books Suggested and Reviewed by Stephen Giles M.S.W, RSW.
Betrayal is just one of many powerful emotions typically experienced by the hurt partner in a relationship where infidelity has taken place. The unfaithful partner will have their own unique set of feelings which may include regret and anger. Infidelity is often a symptom of deeper problems in the relationship. The healing of the original problem is now compounded by the act of infidelity. There are many good self help books on the topic which you can turn to.

News etter Vol 2 Issue 3.
With the end of summer drawing near, you may be turning your thoughts to fall, and with it, all the demands which lie ahead. For most, fall is a busy and stressful time - returning to work after a relaxing holiday, closing the cottage, getting the kids ready to return to school, and tackling new work projects or ventures. For some the added stress provides momentum and helps develop a fresh focus to tasks, while for others the stress can impact mood and interfere with daily life. How can you tell if you or someone you know is struggling with their mood in a way which is causing tension in relationship(s) or keeping them from moving forward? What is the difference between a routine case of the summer blahs and changes in mood which may warrant professional help?
